Notts County are set to be without Brendan Moloney for their FA Cup third-round clash with Forest Green.

The right-back’s loan deal at Meadow Lane expires on Saturday and he is set to return to Nottingham Forest.

Executive chairman Peter Trembling has indicated his desire to keep the defender but he fears the 20-year-old has played his last game for the club.

Captain John Thompson returned for their 4-1 defeat of Burton Albion on Monday after suffering from illness that would have kept him out of the postponed Boxing Day match with Grimsby. He could deputise at right-back.

Defender Jamie Clapham is still missing with a knee injury but Johnnie Jackson is set to retain his place in midfield having returned to the starting XI against Burton after a month out with a knee injury.

Caretaker boss Dave Kevan told the club’s official website: “There is nothing new (injuries) from Monday’s game.

“We are reasonably healthy and in good spirits and are looking forward to the game.”

Forest Green will be without key midfielder Jonathan Smith.

Smith, who scored in the second round against Rochdale last season and then hit a great goal in the defeat to Derby in the following round, picked up a booking at Tamworth on Monday and is suspended for the tie.

Captain Paul Stonehouse or Jared Hodgkiss could take Smith’s place in central midfield.

Craig Rocastle and Oli Thorne are cup-tied while Mark Preece is awaiting the results of a scan on his knee.

If passed fit, Preece could take Thorne’s place in defence. Midfielder Curtis McDonald has a hip problem and is unlikely to be fit.

Despite the suspensions and fitness concerns, boss Dave Hockaday is optimistic about an upset.

“County are only a league above us and we’re capable of getting a result, so don’t write us off,” he told the Gazette.

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson will have to reshuffle his defence for the FA Cup third round tie against Cardiff.

Johnson will be without defenders Lewin Nyatanga, Jamie McCombe and James Wilson for the clash at Ashton Gate.

Nyatanaga is missing as he serves a one-match ban for his sending off in the 2-2 draw with Watford on Monday. McCombe is still out with several minor knocks, while James Wilson is also injured.

Johnson looked to strengthen his defence by recalling Christian Ribeiro from his loan spell at Stockport during the week.

But the Wales under-21 international is likely to start from the bench, with Liam Fontaine set to line-up in defence alongside Bradley Orr, Louis Carey and Jamie McAllister.

City will also be without Evander Sno, who is still absent on compassionate grounds, while Lee Johnson a doubt through illness.

Cardiff face a midfield reshuffle with Gavin Rae ruled out for up to four weeks having broken two bones in his hand.

Rae sustained the injury during Monday’s astonishing 4-4 draw at Peterborough in which the Bluebirds threw away a 4-0 half-time lead.

His absence leaves manager Dave Jones short of options in central midfield with Stephen McPhail still sidelined and Riccy Scimeca having retired while Joe Ledley is constantly playing through the pain barrier as he battles his hip injury.

Rae’s absence means Peter Whittingham, who has a slight thigh problem himself but should be okay, is likely to move into the middle to partner Ledley, with Kelvin Etuhu starting on the wing.

Striker Jay Bothroyd is also doubtful having sustained a swollen knee against Posh while full-back Mark Kennedy is facing a battle to be involved having tweaked a calf in training.

But Jones has received a boost with the news Kevin McNaughton should be fit having come off at half-time on Monday nursing a tight hamstring.

The Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year. The tournament is held each January at Melbourne Park. The tournament was held for the first time in 1905 and was contested on grass from then up to 1987. Since 1988, the tournament has been held on hard courts at Melbourne Park. Mats Wilander is the only male player to have won the tournament on both grass and hard courts.

Like all other Grand Slam tournaments, there are men’s and women’s singles competitions; men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles; and junior’s and master’s competitions.

The two main courts used in the tournament are Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena and feature retractable roofs, which can be shut in case of rain or extreme heat. The Australian Open and Wimbledon are the only Slams with indoor play.

The singles winners in 2009 were Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams. In men’s doubles, the winners were Bob and Mike Bryan, and in women’s doubles, the winners were Serena and Venus Williams – the very first time in history that both doubles titles had been won by siblings. In mixed doubles, the winners were Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi.

In the League Cup, Morton won their First Round home fixture with Second Division Cowdenbeath, 3-1, but lost the following round to Killmarnock at Rugby Park, 1-3.

Morton have already crashed out of the League Challenge Cup, 1-2 to Ross County, so the Scottish Cup is their last domestic silverware opportunity, save the First Division, which they will probably not top.

Morton sit second from the cellar in the Scottish First Division with only five wins on nineteen matches. They’ve lost thrice at the hands of Glaswegian Partick Thistle, thrice at the hands of Dundee, and twice to Dunfermline, Ross County and the Callie Jags.

In the Scottish Cup, The ‘ton won the replay. 1-nil, at Second Division Dumbarton.

The event was played in Las Vegas, Nevada from the event’s inception in 1953 until 1968, first at the Desert Inn Country Club through 1966, and then at Stardust Country Club in 1967 and 1968. After that, it began a 30-year relationship with La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California, which lasted until the event was moved to its current location in Hawaii. In 2010 the title sponsor will be changed, with the tournament name renamed as the SBS Championship.

The Africa Open is a golf tournament on the Sunshine Tour that was first contested in February 2008, over the Gary Player designed championship course at the Fish River Sun Country Club, near Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

In order to increase the profile of the tournament, since 2009 it has been held in January at the East London Golf Club in East London. In 2009, the Africa Open had a prize fund of R5 million, over four times that of the inaugural event. The Sunshine Tour hoped that it would attract a stronger field as a result, and possibly lead to a co-sanctioning agreement with the European Tour in subsequent years.

In October 2009, it was announced that the Africa Open would be included on the 2010 European Tour schedule. It will be the third event of the four tournament South African swing of the tour, held after the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the South African Open, and the week before the Joburg Open.

Practically every Test in this series is a homecoming of sorts for one player or another in the England line-up but this is the most high profile because Durban is KP country.

Pietersen played against England at Kingsmead ten years ago as young off-spinner for KwaZulu Natal. After the game he pestered several England players about how to get a county trial.

Michael Vaughan wrote in his autobiography “I passed his name on to Yorkshire but they were not interested.” Whoops. Pietersen has admitted this Test “will be special.”

England will hope so. It is the last of 2009 – an incredibly difficult year for Pietersen. Sacked as captain, sold as the IPL’s most expensive player, injured for the Ashes and back in South Africa. Could there be one more storyline?

Keeping faith England seem likely to stick with six batters and one reason could be the form of Matt Prior, who has not scored a fifty for eight innings. Prior is now an excellent keeper, who has the confidence to stand up to the stumps against James Anderson, and can bat at a decent pace. But he could do with a score to silence any niggling doubts.

Kings of Kingsmead England have lost only one of 14 Tests at Durban and that defeat was in 1928. But don’t get too carried away. Since South Africa’s were readmitted to world cricket England have drawn all three Tests in Durban and their last win was in 1964 when their wicketkeeper, Jim Parks, made a hundred. Take note Matt Prior.

Playing the mindgames Not a press conference goes by without the South Africans having a pop at England. After Centurion they were irritated by England’s celebrations at drawing the Test and annoyed by Jonathan Trott’s pre-shot routine.

This all comes after spending the one-day series questioning the treatment of Adil Rashid and querying Andrew Strauss’ captaincy. England appear to have decided against any verbal revenge. For now.

Festive weather Rain is forecast for the Christmas period in Durban and the hot steamy, humid coast will feel a long way from the High Veldt of Centurion. England hope the wet weather equals a swinging ball. It could be their best hope.
