QUEENS hero Jim Thomson has been offered a glamorous testimonial against Premier League winners Rangers reports The Dumfries and Galloway Standard
The former Doonhamers captain was contacted by Gers assistant manager Ally McCoist.
And Thomson is relishing the chance to go up against their Scottish Cup final foes.
He said: “It is absolutely fantastic news.
“I was so pleased when I heard the news.
“We’ve obviously had a lot of outings against them recently; it’d just be nice to beat them!
“It has meant that other friendlies have had to be shifted about, but I am really grateful to Kenny Brannigan and Davie Rae for allowing it to happen.”
Gers gaffer Walter Smith first made contact back in January.
But it is only now that the tie looks set to become a reality.
And Thomson reckons it will be a memorable night for him.
“It could be a pretty emotional night,” Thomson said.
“I’ve not hung up my boots yet technically, but I expect this will be my last match with the club.
“It will give me a chance to look back on my career, and savour some of the best times.
“And it will be an opportunity to say goodbye to the players and the fans who have all been fantastic to me over the years.
“I really couldn’t ask for any more for them.
“So it should be a very special occasion.”
Thomson was the club’s captain for eight seasons and has spent the last year working with the under 19s team.
And Queens boss Kenny Brannigan is pleased he is getting such recognition.
He said: “For any player to get a testimonial, it shows their committment to a club, so it’s really smashing big Jim’s getting the honour.
“He’s been a fantastic servant for Queens and has always been a model professional.
“I’m very pleased for him.”
The big match is scheduled to take place at Palmerston Park on Saturday, July 18.
