Watch Boxing Floyd Mayweather v Shane Mosley Free Live Online Stream

April 20th, 2010

The biggest fight of the year thus far takes place on May 1 in Las Vegas, as Floyd Mayweather fights Shane Mosley. It is a rare match between two fighters who have been at or near the top of the pound-for-pound best list for the past decade. They are both still very viable and in great form. Boxing fans eagerly await this fight.

Floyd Mayweather is the favorite, a perk that comes with being undefeated over a career that spans nearly 14 years. The 33-year-old has bad hands, but is generally well preserved, having not been subjected to beatings and hard fights. Some might say this is due to careful matchmaking or perhaps it is just due to Mayweather’s brilliance. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Putting the questions surrounding the quality of recent Mayweather opponents aside, he is facing a top guy in this fight and deserves credit. Mosley is coming off a destructive knockout of fearsome Antonio Margarito. Shane looked renewed after some had begun to write him off. He battered Margarito at will, looking as good as ever in the process. Sure he is 39, but he has lived a Spartan lifestyle that allows him to still be a top guy.

Floyd doesn’t have the losses Mosley has, but he might if he fought the same level of competition. Mosley’s resume reads like a who’s-who of boxing over the last 2 decades, highlighted by two wins over a prime Oscar De La Hoya. He lost twice each to Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright and dropped a close one to a then-undefeated Miguel Cotto. His win over Margarito, however, confirmed his stature at the top of the sport is still solid.

Mayweather could grow old overnight. Fighters don’t continue unabated forever. He will have had only fight in 28 months by the time he climbs into the ring on May 1. Mosley hasn’t been too active himself, as this is his first fight since beating Margarito in January of last year. Old pros like these shouldn’t have too much of a problem. Sometimes layoffs are good for aging fighters.

I think Mosley will be Mayweather’s toughest fight in quite a while. Mosley has great speed and can still hit extremely hard. He is probably the puncher in this fight. Mayweather is just so clever in the ring, knowing how to shade the conditions in his favor. He is a master of distance and a defensive whiz. After over a decade at the world-class level, he has yet to be in deep peril. His chin and fighting pride are also strong suits.

Prediction: I see a fast-paced and even encounter over the first half of the fight. Mayweather will be troubled by Mosley’s speed and combinations, while keeping Mosley honest with snappy counters and a strong jab. As the fight wears on, Mayweather will settle into more of a groove and begin to better time Mosley with combinations that will take a little wind out of his sails. I see Mayweather’s ring IQ playing a major role. Mosley, a clever fighter himself, will not be able to adjust late as the fight gets away from him. Mayweather will outbox Mosley to win a clear unanimous decision.

Watch Super Six Boxing Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler Free Live Online Stream

April 20th, 2010

Carl “the Cobra” Froch (26-0, 20 KOs) is the perfect opponent for Mikkel “the Viking Warrior” Kessler (42-2, 32 KOs) right now. He’s the least talented of the six boxers in Showtime’s groundbreaking super middleweight tournament. He’s the easiest to hit. And even better for Kessler, he’ll be fighting Froch in front of his adoring fans in Denmark?

This sounds all too familiar, right? Despite that past prediction hiccup, I am sticking with my guns when it comes to picking against Carl Froch. Sorry Froch fans, I just don’t think your boy is as good as his undefeated record appears to indicate.

I expect this to be a very exciting fight however. Despite his technical flaws, I can not deny that “the Cobra” is always aggressive, can take a punch (he’s never been stopped), is extremely strong, and has heavy hands (77% KO ratio).

The problem for him against Kessler is that he’s fighting a man who can be a powerful counter-puncher. This is potentially disastrous for a fighter who fights with such reckless abandon as Froch does. To make matters worse, Kessler has also never been stopped, is very strong, and can punch (73% KO ratio).

When it’s all said and done, I expect Mikkel Kessler to erase his debacle against Andre Ward and get his first win in “the Super Six” in two weeks. A stoppage victory is not beyond the realm of possibility, but I’ll settle on a Mikkel Kessler unanimous decision victory over Carl Froch.

Watch Super Six Boxing Andre Dirrell v Arthur Abraham Free Live Online Stream

March 30th, 2010

In Stage One, Abraham fought on his home turf in Germany and knocked Jermain Taylor out of the tournament with a 12th round right hand that put the former middleweight champion on Dream Street, and maybe out of boxing altogether. Dirrell went to Nottingham and lost a highly controversial decision to Carl Froch in an ugly fight. Right now, Abraham leads the round robin with three points, and Dirrell has zero, of course.

A win for Abraham here all but completely assures him of a berth in the single-elimination part of the tournament, where the top four fighters move forward and the bottom two are left out. Andre Dirrell needs this win, and he knows it.

But mentally, who is Andre Dirrell? The skill is there. He’s got that in spades. But what about the heart? I don’t like to question “heart,” really, because while I don’t go mad for this warrior/Spartan/gladiator stuff, these guys are all brave enough to get in there. So it’s relative. So relatively, does Dirrell have great heart?

Right now, I think you could say no. On Dirrell’s worst days, he’s outright unwatchable. The Froch fight was hideous, and only second on his list of offenses to his deplorable “fight” with Curtis Stevens, which Harold Lederman at ringside called (I’m paraphrasing) “the worst performance I ever saw.”

Abraham is almost mythical at this point. Pure strength, he’s top of the line. He has brutal power. There’s nothing flashy about him, but he can turn lights out fast, sort of like Wladimir Klitschko. Both have one-punch power, and you know it, but they can almost lull you into forgetting that every fight. Then suddenly, BAM! And it’s over.

BAM! is different than BANG! BANG BANG! Manny Pacquiao has power, too, but not like this.

There is plenty of talk about Dirrell having a legit shot at the upset, and yes he has the tools to do it physically. He’s much faster than Abraham, he’s taller than him, longer than him, he’s more dynamic. But Abraham, simple as it is, does what he does tremendously well. Dirrell does what he does really well in spurts, and sometimes he just runs and tries to avoid contact as much as possible. He’s not Floyd Mayweather, who does what Dirrell seems like he wants to do. Abraham is about as good as it gets with the peek-a-boo defense and filthy punching power. When he gets locked in and sees an opening, he rarely fails to take full advantage of it.

There’s a part of me that would like to say I can see the upset happening, but I really can’t. I don’t think Dirrell has the mindset to take the risks necessary to beat Abraham, and with the Super Six’s neutral judges, I don’t think Arthur will be fighting the uphill battle on the cards that some expect. King Arthur will reign still on Saturday night, and I think he stops Andre, too.

Watch Boxing Roy Jones Jr. v Bernard Hopkins II Free Live Online Stream

March 28th, 2010

Never let it be said that old age (in boxing years) has softened the rivalry between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr, because no matter how the public feels about the fight — and the feelings have been made clear here and elsewhere — the two fighters appear to be taking it seriously.

For Bernard, this is a chance to settle the score. For Roy, it’s a chance to prove again he’s Hopkins’ superior in the ring.

The two went face-to-face with a debate-style presser on Thursday in Los Angeles. Here are some key quotes from Golden Boy’s press release.

Bernard Hopkins

“This is 2010. That was 1993. That’s 17 years I’ve been waiting for this fight. It’s personal to me and it’s important to me that I get this man in the ring and that I send him on his way to the Hall of Fame. I want to make sure that the last person he remembers is ‘The Executioner.’”

“You listen to Roy Jones and he says something I agree with. You hate to say it, but we are rivals, and you hate to say it, but it took us 17 years to get here. A lot of other things have happened in our lives in the time it took to get here, but now that it’s here, his worst nightmare has come to pass. Me.”

Roy Jones Jr.

“The fight is a rivalry because as the man just said, we are two legendary future Hall of Famers. We’ve always had a debate about whose career has been the most impressive and April 3 will be the deciding factor.”

“The fight is important because, I hate to say it, but first he is my rival, and I must defeat my rival. Secondly, this is the perfect opportunity and perfect timing. The fans wanted it, and since they couldn’t give them the other fight they wanted we’re going to give them something else.”

“What I have planned is simple. I will fight to get you off me, or I will fight to knock you out, whichever one comes first. Whichever comes first, that’s what I’ll be doing. I’ll knock you out to get you off me, or go after you and knock you out. It doesn’t matter.”

“The day ‘The Executioner’ will leave the boxing ring is going to be April 3rd.”

Watch Boxing WBA David Haye v John Ruiz Free Live Online Stream

March 23rd, 2010

It’s official: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye will make the first defence of his title against mandatory challenger and former champ John Ruiz in Manchester, UK on April 3rd 2010. Haye was at a press conference in Manchester earlier today to formally announce the bout. The venue will be The MEN Arena in the city, and Haye is very happy to be fighting there in April.

“It’s been ten years since the heavyweight championship has been fought in Britain,” Haye said today. “Everyone knows I had to go to Germany to take the [WBA] title from Nikolai Valuev. Now it’s time to showcase my skills again in front of the great British public. I’m delighted to have the fight at The MEN Arena. I’ve been there on many nights to watch Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, even Mike Tyson, and the atmosphere was always tremendous.”

As excited as “The Hayemaker” is about the upcoming match, it’s known how a good number of fans are not quite as thrilled at the thought of Haye-Ruiz.. Ruiz, though tough and capable, has been involved in a number of pretty awful-to-watch fights in his time, very much making him “public enemy number-one” in the eyes of some fight fans. Will the April clash also be a stinker? Of course, Haye has no choice but to face “The Quiet Man,” as he would lose his title otherwise, but fans may well stay away in droves when fight night comes – we will have to wait and see.

Haye has promised to get the job done in exciting fashion, saying he plans to take Ruiz out “in style.” But saying it is far easier than doing it, as all Ruiz’ opponents bar David Tua, over fifteen years ago, are only too aware. Haye certainly has no easy first defence.

Watch WBA Boxing Amir Khan v Dimitry Salita Free Live Online Stream

November 29th, 2009

Amir Khan will defend his world title against Dmitriy Salita at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on Saturday December 5.

Khan, who won the WBA light-welterweight belt in July by outpointing Andreas Kotelnik, faces a tricky first defence.

Promoter Frank Warren said: “For Amir’s first defence this is a very tough fight for him and he’s taking on a fighter that the American media are really building up at the moment.

“Salita’s got a great record, he’s unbeaten and carries a big punch and of course he will pose a threat to Amir, but Amir’s a world-class fighter and has to deal with these challengers.”

He added: “I’ve promoted a lot of shows in Newcastle with all the big names like Naz (Naseem Hamed), (Joe) Calzaghe, (Ricky) Hatton and (Nigel) Benn and I’m delighted to bring Amir to the city for the first time.

“The public there are big sports fans and love the big events and it’s great to bring them a fight like Khan v Salita.”

Salita, the mandatory challenger for Khan’s title, was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and moved with his family to Brooklyn, New York, when he was nine years old. He is an observant Jew and strictly follows Jewish law so if he fights on a Saturday then it must begin after sundown, the end of the sabbath.

He famously said: “Anyone who wants a good whuppin’ from me is just going to have to wait until sundown.”

Watch MMA UFC 106: Ortiz vs Griffin II Free Live Online Stream

November 18th, 2009

Previously announced match-ups of John Howard vs. Dennis Hallman and Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida  were moved to The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Finale and UFC 107 respectively.

MMAWeekly.com had reported that Tom Lawlor would fight on the card but he has been moved to UFC Fight Night: Maynard vs. Diaz.

Tito Ortiz was originally scheduled to fight Mark Coleman. However, on October 5, 2009, Ortiz reported that the fight was now off, and it later became known that Coleman was suffering from a knee injury. UFC confirmed that Forrest Griffin would step in to face Ortiz.

Jon Fitch was originally set to fight Ricardo Almeida but Almeida was forced off the card with a knee injury. Fitch was announced to fight Thiago Alves at UFC 107, but Alves was forced to pull out due to an injury during training. Fitch is still on the UFC 107 card and will now be fighting Mike Pierce.

On October 26, UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar pulled out of his fight against Shane Carwin due to an illness (mononucleosis) that has kept him from training for several weeks. While resting in Canada, he collapsed and was hospitalized, and was found to also have a serious intestinal disorder that may possibly end his career. The UFC therefore had the Ortiz v. Griffin fight headline the UFC 106 card.

Watch Boxing Super Six Andre Ward v Mikkel Kessler Free Live Online Stream

November 18th, 2009

Watch Super Six Boxing Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler Free Live Online Stream

The Super-Six tournament has already proven a stunning, innovative success. By taking in six top fighters in one division working toward a common goal has not really been seen since the alphabet organizations began proliferating in the 1970s.
Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward are super talents that would not have met for at least a couple of years (if ever) had it not been for the Super-Six. Ward may have very well captured one of the various belts and been force, as Kessler has been, to engage in meaningless mandatories ad nauseam.
So, it is with particular relish that we get to see this bout come to fruition Saturday night.
Kessler, 30, 42-1 (32 KOs), Denmark, is clearly in his prime years. The tough loss to Joe Calzaghe notwithstanding, he has resided at or near the top of the division for years. Wins over the likes of Markus Beyer, Eric Lucas, and Anthony Mundine, among others, has solidified his place as an elite fighter. What none of those names have given him, however, is the breakout victory that he needs to become an international figure. This tournament, with Andre Ward first on the menu, gives him that opportunity.
His crisp and precise punching has enabled him to adjust to a variety of opponent styles. In his most recent title defense, Kessler demonstrated that he had little trouble adjusting to the tall southpaw Gusmyr Perdomo. While Perdomo does not have nearly the talent level of Andre Ward, he was a useful warmup for the switch-hitter Ward.
Ward, 25, 20-0 (13 KOs), Oakland, came to the pro ranks with an Olympic Gold Medal pedigree — a rarity for American fighters of late. In amassing his undefeated ledger, he has not been in any hurry to climb the ladder. Whatever doubts fans and pundits may have had about his development had their questions answered earlier this year when he out-punched and out-boxed the hard punching Edison Miranda. In that fight Ward show that he could take the big shot and use a range of skills to decision a dangerous opponent.

Watch Boxing Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto Free Live Online Stream

November 9th, 2009

It’s finally been made official, the Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto super fight is now signed and sealed. On November 14 th, 2009 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada, pound for pound champion Manny Pacquiao will take on welterweight powerhouse Miguel Cotto.

The fight will be fought at a catch weight of 145 pounds. The weight was one of the biggest factors holding up the creation of this fight, as Pacquiao’s camp wanted Cotto to come down even farther. Finally the two sides agreed on 145, 2 pounds lighter than the welterweight limit.

Manny Pacquiao’s opponent for his November fight was unknown for quite some time. Finally it appeared that Shane Mosley would be the man to step into the ring with him. However, Team Pacquiao and Team Cotto were able to finalize the deal, made all the easier since both men are promoted by Bob Arum and Top Rank Promotions.

Pacquiao will have the clear speed advantage in this bout. He showed the world what his speed could do even at the higher weight classes against the likes of Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton.

Miguel Cotto on the other hand will come into the ring as the naturally larger man, having fought at junior welterweight and welterweight for his entire career. He also has superior boxing skills, while Pacquiao is the more dynamic offensive fighter. Team Pacquiao is also hoping that forcing Cotto to cut weight down to 145 pounds will leave him weaker, and Pacquiao more able to capitalize on that vulnerability.
